Too Many Feelings: People Who are Brilliant Programmers + Comp/Video/Other Game Designers + New Media Artists-- Who Are Also Trans Women

toomanyfeelings:

Disclaimer: All of these people are out on their own terms and this is not intended as a tokenizing post, rather a resource for fellow dork girls. My partner is a computer programming, music and philosophy geeking, and out trans woman who often says she wishes she knew more about people like…

Also Sandy Stone, programmer, theoretician, and recording engineer who wrote “The ‘Empire’ Strikes Back: A Posttransexual Manifesto” in 1987 and founded a new media department at UT Austin in 1993. Sadly, I only learned about her by way of reading about virulent transmisogynist Janice Raymond… still, to come back from being viciously attacked in print and reply with a thoughtful essay on historical constructions of trans experience is pretty baller.

An emblematic sentence from her work: “I suggest constituting transsexuals not as a class or problematic ‘third gender’, but rather as a genre— a set of embodied texts whose potential for productive disruption of structured sexualities and spectra of desire has yet to be explored.”
